Four Reflection Questions for Getting and Giving Better Feedback

As I reach out to you for feedback about these blog posts, I also want to share a bit of my process…specifically how I used my journal! So, here it is, a picture of my journal where I wrote some questions for me to reflect on in preparation for asking for feedback…these are coincidentally the basis of the four reflection questions I am sharing with you today (you’ll notice they’ve been edited to have a more general application)!
Your journal = the ultimate momentum making machine.
Giving constructive feedback is an art form. There are all kinds of formulas out there, like sandwiching two positive remarks between a negative one. That’s only going to help you so much…to give and get constructive feedback I suggest you start with the end in mind, be specific and show compassion.
Allow me to take you through my own reflections about getting your feedback on this blog as an example of how you might use your journal to prepare to give or get feedback!
What am I trying to accomplish? What’s my vision for success?
Your journal = the ultimate momentum making machine. Misfit Entrepreneurs are empowered to turn their dreams into reality because I am helping them use their journals to gain clarity around what it is they truly want, what’s keeping them from it (usually we are our own worse enemies), and to plan how they’re going to make it happen.
What specific theories/ideas am I testing?
I have a hypothesis that Misfit Entrepreneur’s want to experience transformational growth. They want to write in their journals to do that. They need inspiration, accountability and camaraderie to see those intentions through. And my blog is aiding in their efforts by providing actionable ideas for journaling.

So, there you have it and in real time. I have found that when I write something in my journal I’m a lot less likely to procrastinate and more likely to reach my goals. I have been meaning to ask for feedback about my blog experiment for a few weeks now…it took a client requesting that I show their team how to give constructive feedback to prompt my own journaling reflections for the blog!
My journal gives me a place to get started. As you can see with the journaling prompts I shared, my ideas (and plans) are likely to evolve and change from their initial starting place in my journal. That is in fact part of the point, to think, experiment, reflect, learn and grow means to change…but in order for that to happen you have to get started!
Ponder these four reflection questions in preparation for getting or giving better feedback:
