5 Tips for Co-Creators to Give Constructive Developmental Feedback

By: Ariana Friedlander and Molly McCowan Collaborating on a creative endeavor is like playing in a jazz band: everyone needs to have a shared understanding of the boundaries in order to allow for improvisation while still sounding like a cohesive unit. This balance between boundaries and creativity is at the heart of good jazz, and it’s also essential for co-creational efforts. All too often, leaders of co-creational projects fail to set ground rules because they’re afraid to

The Conclusion to A Misfit Entrepreneur’s Guide to Building a Business Your Way

Such struggles are why it helps to go on long bike rides with friends. And while the Misfit Entrepreneur is on a journey of mastery, focusing to finish on different projects is an essential part of the process.  I wrote this book because of the Co-Creators that have been on this journey with me.  There were a lot of things that happened since I started writing this book in December 2015, that derailed my efforts in some way, shape or form.  Co-Creators held me accountable to

7 Tips for Getting Along Better with Millennials, Gen Xers and Boomers In the Workplace

I recently led a workshop at the Larimer County Workforce Center called, Love Millennials, Hate Millennials: We All Just Need to Get Along! In it we did an activity from, Conversational Intelligence, called “Double Clicking,” where we discussed what it means to get along. While the notion of getting along is elementary, the reality is that we all have a different understanding of what it means to do it. These 7 tips for getting along better with Millennials, Gen Xers and Boom

Help Finalize the 2016 EntrepreNerds Recommended Reading List

Summer is upon us! Now is a great time to curl up in a hammock under the shade of a tree and read a good book. Like many a nerd, I have a growing stack of unread books piling up, and yet I sometimes struggle to find just the right reading material. While interesting at first, not all books that entice me to crack them open are engaging enough to finish! In fact, my inability to finish non-fiction books was a large source of inspiration for starting EntrepreNerds. I need acc

Learning Community Profile: SpokesBUZZ Music Incubator

So what does a Learning Community look like? Based on my experience working with SpokesBUZZ, I have identified 4 elements of a Learning Community. 1. Shared Purpose SpokesBUZZ is a Northern Colorado nonprofit founded by Dani Grant that is dedicated to advancing the exposure and reach of our local music scene. One way they do that is by handpicking local bands to mentor and support as they learn how to create their vision of rock and roll success. Everyone in attendance had a

My Mom Taught Me that Practice Makes Perfect

My mom is an exceptional piano teacher (Ok, granted I might seem bias and all but seriously, you can ask her students and they’ll agree), she’s fastidious, determined and provides constructive feedback.  I started playing the piano when I was three years old and practiced practically every night with my mom until I graduated high school.  That’s well over 5,000 hours of practicing with the teacher! Me being myself, I insisted on playing when I was 3. This is my first recital

Hooked on Insta-Feedback: Five Steps to Empower Yourself When Delays Develop

A few years ago a friend from high school asked me to photograph her homegrown wedding.  I was all too excited and honored to have the opportunity to tap into my old hobby and immediately agreed.  I studied photography back in high school before digital cameras were mainstream, which meant that I was trained on a 35mm SLR camera and actually developed photos in the darkroom! The couple plays rock, paper, scissors to decide who reads their vows first! I eagerly prepared for th

Finding Your Muse: What to do when inspiration leaves but the need to create remains?

I always found it interesting when artists, writers, creators in general lost their inspiration.   Like Michelangelo’s fallow period, or Brian Wilson’s.  I never understood how someone with so much talent and ability could just not make something, not write or paint or compose.  It wasn’t until I started my own business and took on a crusade to include a blog on my website that I started to understand that feeling. Michelangelo's famous statue, David I like inspiring people,

    Admirables: Dani Grant (Part 1)

Admirables, Dani Grant, has a sexy new boyfriend, and his name is SpokesBUZZ! If ever a person could have a titillating love affair with music, that would be Dani. And she’s combined that love affair with her passion for community and fervor for entrepreneurialism. I’ve been surrounded with friends and family members that have had deep affections for music my entire life and I’ve never seen anyone apply it with such dedication and creativity to achieve the things that Dani Gr
